Iceland is an island of 103,000 square kilometers near the Arctic Circle in the Atlantic Ocean. It lies between Greenland and Norway. It has a projected population of 339,031, being the 180th most populated country in the world. The capital city is Reykjavik, which is situated in southwestern part of the island.
Climate and weather
Iceland is characterized by a short cool summer season and a very long, cold, windy winter. The overall yearly temperature fluctuates from 28 to 57 Fahrenheit degrees. The southern lowlands may reach a low of 32 in cold winter season; yet, the lowest temperature in the north is between minus 13 and minus 22 Fahrenheit degrees. In the highlands, the lowest temperature can be approximately 14 Fahrenheit degrees.

The most popular main dish in Icelandic cuisine is mashed fish stew or grilled fish. Roast lamb is also among their favorite delicacies.
